When should kids start seeing the dentist?

We recommend bringing your child in for their first dental visit by their first birthday — or when their first tooth comes through, whichever comes first. Early visits help get your child comfortable in the chair and give us the chance to spot any issues before they become bigger problems.

What happens during a child’s dental appointment?

Children’s dental visits at Cowra Dental are all about being calm, friendly and fuss-free. Depending on your child’s age, a check-up might include:

• A gentle look inside the mouth
• Checking teeth development and bite
• Talking through brushing and eating habits
• A clean and fluoride treatment (if needed)
• Time for questions — from parents and kids!

Our dentists will go at your child’s pace and always make sure they feel safe and relaxed.

How often should kids go to the dentist?

Just like adults, we recommend kids visit the dentist every six months. These regular visits help us monitor how their teeth and jaws are growing and make sure their oral hygiene is on track.

What treatments do you offer for children?

We provide a full range of children’s dental care, including:

• Routine check-ups and cleans
• Fissure sealants to protect back teeth
• Fluoride treatments
• Fillings (if needed)
• Gentle extractions (when baby teeth don’t fall out on their own)
• Advice on thumb-sucking, teething and mouthguards for sport

We also keep a close eye on your child’s jaw and bite development, and can refer to orthodontic specialists if needed.

Does Cowra Dental accept the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS)?

Yes — we’re pleased to accept the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS), which provides eligible children with up to $1,132 in basic dental care over two calendar years. This can be used for check-ups, cleans, X-rays, fissure sealants, fillings, and more.

What if my child is nervous about the dentist?

We totally understand. Our dentists are experienced in working with kids of all ages and know how to keep things calm and positive. We use friendly language, show kids the tools we’re using, and let them take their time. For very anxious little ones, we can work out a gradual approach to help build trust.
